FB is a wonderful platform
Hooray for Facebook, it has a large audience and is controlled by a plutocrat
It has some problems from my perspective
- It spies on me on and off the platform
- It sells my information to exploitative people
- It controls what I can say and how I can say it
- It tightly controls who can see what I write
- Shadowbanning, how frustrating
- FB conversations have a very short life
- The spammers and the trollers
- The amplification of hate
There is a dream
We could say we want the Web to reflect a vision of the world where everything is done democratically. To do that, we get computers to talk with each other in such a way as to promote that ideal.
—Tim Berners-Lee
There is a step
I can’t just get rid of FB but there is a way to start to take back control of my own voice
It involves integrating FB with my Blog
I know it sounds dirty and as if it’s just going to enrich FB
BUT
Maybe not
AND
If YOU don’t have a blog there might be some answers for you elsewhere
Integrating FB
I can display page feed in my posts and pages
Let users login using their FB IDs
Use a system on my posts to record “likes”
OR
Facebook Comments WordPress plugin.
Maybe
Maybe I can crosspost , the idea would be to steal my FB friends away
