Understanding Motivational Interviewing

I think that there is a real problem when psychologists try and teach psychological techniques to their “clients”.
Because,
there are fundamental differences between relating to a “client” and relating to a friend or family member.

Ths first difference is getting paid, “paid friends” are an abomination and a perversity.

Motivational interviewing starts with an understanding of this, in my (provisional) opinion

“MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.”  (Miller & Rollnick, 2013, p. 29)
