Next week the Qld Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 will be tabled in Parliament. There will then follow a 12 week public consultation period – yes, I know … before the Bill is presented to Parliament for debate/conscience vote in September. If passed, anticipated implementation date is 2023 which is a hell of a long time away for those who won’t make it. Here is a great article by The Conversation which explains the Queensland Bill and how it differs from other States. It actually is a very good Bill. A lot of thought has gone into it and voices have clearly been heard by the Qld Law Reform Commission. Let’s not let opponents pull this Bill apart. The time taken to draft the Bill was, as the Attorney General said, was for the purpose of ensuring that the Bill was drafted in a Queensland context for Queenslanders. We agree.
